Bush and the Dangerous Detainees

...and I thought that anything Bush says now wouldn't bother me anymore.

After the Supereme Court ruling last month gave all detainees the right to petition federal judges for immediate release, Dana Perino, speaking for Bush in a press conference Thursday, said that the dangerous detainees who are detained in Guantanamo could end up on the streets of the U.S.A.  Her quote, as reported by the AP:
"I'm sure that none of us want Khalid Sheikh Mohammed walking around our neighborhoods."

Uh.. I may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but I thought that Homeland Security was supposed to be able to take care of that very unlikely possibility. After all, wasn't Khalid the Al-Quida third in command, and tactical mastermind of 9/11? He is either a confessed civilian mass murderer or a war crimes criminal, and he'll have his day in one court or another.

Does Bush think that the trillions that were spent on domestic security leaves us completely unprepared?  Or maybe that Khalid will ever spend a free moment for the rest of his life?

The truth is the Administration doesn't know what to do with the kettle of fish it overcooked. Now that it looks like at least some of the detainees will be released shortly, they are using the same old fear tactics to cover up the fact that they have no plans at all. Perino cut to the same old line: Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

Sorry, Dana. Tell your boss that I'm not buying in to the fear thing any more. Go peddle that smelly bucket o' bait elsewhere.

"trillions that were spent on domestic security " uh, never really happened. lots of "studies" (suppressed if embarrassing) and toys that don't work but have many no-bid contracts to pay off contributors with and just plain theft, but not spent on real meaningful domestic security

Re: Bush and the Dangerous Detainees (none / 0)

Off topic alert: The Buffalo News reports that former Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards will debate Karl Rove on Sept. 26 on the campus of the University of Buffalo as part of the school's Distinguished Speakers Series. In the midst of the U.S. attorney scandal, Edwards called on President Bush to "fire Karl Rove." When Rove announced he was resigning from the White House, Edwards released a statement that simply read "Goodbye, good riddance."

He was warmly received by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called him "a leader that God has blessed us with at this time."

Re: Bush and the Dangerous Detainees (2.00 / 1)

Isn't that the point though. How much of the money that we have spent on Iraq has gone missing and into the pockets of bush/Cheney cronies? It's all a scam to keep us afraid so these bastards can rip us off.

Re: Bush and the Dangerous Detainees (none / 0)

I'm glad my 'trillions' comment didn't go un-noticed. I don't know how much was actually spent, but I'm sure it was a lot, and mostly wasted. Selling fear ain't cheap.

I think most folks now realize just how much we were scammed. And for such a long, long time. Makes my blood boil, too, Hollede.

Re: Bush and the Dangerous Detainees (none / 0)

I guess I am not real big on details, so I did not even notice. I see the bigger picture as well on how we have been truly raped and pillaged by this 'administration'. I think that we all have to try and challenge the bullshit out there, and make it easier for our candidate to get things done.
